Artist's Statement

Prairie plant roots sink deep to survive the hot and cold extremes of Illinois weather. Similarly to those of the plants, my own roots to nature also sink deep as I make unexpected connections to this grass–dominated land. As a young farm girl, I became in tune with the land as I worked long, hard summer days in my father's soybean felds. Now as an adult, I have circled back to someplace familiar, yet now I have a greater purpose — to help restore and protect this land. I hope my images inspire others to seek, to explore and to make their own connections to the land and the prairie.
