Description

Lourdes Ferrer, Ed.D., academic achievement consultant for the DuPage Regional Office of Education, addresses a standing room-only crowd during the inaugural African American/ Latino Parent Summit at College of DuPage. Co-sponsored by the DuPage Regional Office of Education and College of DuPage, the summit gave parents an awareness of the academic achievement gap that many African American and Latino students face. Ferrer and Stephen Garlington, authors of the 2012 book, “Voices: African American and Hispanic Students’ Perceptions Regarding the Academic Achievement Gap,” led tracks in both Spanish and English, with more than 600 people attending the summit.
