Description

This research paper entitled The Need for a Revolution was submitted in an Honors seminar, Karl Marx and the Modern World. The goal was to apply Marx's method of analysis to an event of interest to the student. I chose the global economic meltdown of 2008. Drawing on primary sources from the seminar and my economics courses of the previous year, the paper discusses events that led to the massive crisis while drawing parallels between this crisis and others cited by Marx in his various writings. Special emphasis was given to one particular passage from The Communist Manifesto regarding "the instruments of production...the relations of production, and...the whole relations of society." The paper concludes that Marx himself would have to concede that the revolution needed for fixing our broken economic system will never happen.
