Abstract

We’ll build attainable and sustainable homes with Habitat for Humanity…

DuPage Habitat for Humanity, ComEd and College of DuPage have teamed up to make home ownership a reality for working families while saving money and energy. Architecture and construction students enrolled in an innovative new COD class called “Sustainable Design Initiative” will work with industry professionals in building eleven new homes in West Chicago. Pioneer Prairie, the charter neighborhood in Habitat’s green initiative, will provide low income families with affordable, energy efficient housing. The construction phase of the project kicked off with a ground breaking ceremony. Images was on site, along with representatives from DuPage Habitat for Humanity, ComEd and COD, to help launch the community conscious partnership.

… go green with a new line-up of conservation-minded courses…

College of DuPage goes green in keeping with modern industry’s call for renewable energy sources and sustainable materials. COD answers the demand for students trained in green technologies by expanding the curriculum and offering a variety of green courses across many disciplines. Of particular interest are new classes in hospitality, automotive and horticulture.

… and multiply opportunities for math teachers with a brand new degree…

The need for middle and high school educators is on the rise. To help provide a continuum of service in education, College of DuPage is pleased to offer a new degree: The Associate of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics. This new curriculum prepares students to transfer to a four year school to complete their teaching certification with general and professional education requirements, and the chance to observe veteran middle and high school teachers in action.
