Event Title
Pushing Towards Inclusion
Location
BIC 3532
Start Date
28-2-2015 11:00 AM
Description
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act simply states that inclusion be “considered” for all students, but it is not clear what this consideration entails. This educational environment is often overlooked as Individualized Education Program teams do not thoughtfully consider the benefits of inclusion. The environment that a student with special needs is placed in, will determine their development throughout their education. This presentation describes the possible educational environments that students with special needs can be placed in and discusses the benefits associated with an inclusion environment for teachers and students. Additionally, best practices for the inclusion classroom will be discussed and resources for teachers and parents outlining the benefits of inclusion will be provided in the form of a pamphlet.
