Description

I will be reading a series of my most recent poems, all composed within the past two years. These works examine various moments of healing past traumas as well as a few recent losses. Nature is a constant in my poetry; natural settings, some more specific than others, facilitate renewal. In my most detailed dedication to the natural world, I encourage my audience to “Let the dirt collect under your nails / and kiss the puckering surfaces of salty waters.” Elsewhere, I describe a forest as a refuge where death and decay are also nurturing. Most of the pieces come out of a creative writing class and a number of them have been developed for and featured in our student literary magazine, Point of View. I hope to inspire my readers to find peace in what is around them and present in the moment.
