Description

Memetics is a term coined by Richard Dawkins in order to explain the replication of ideas in the same way that one would explain the replication of genes. When using Memetics, the term for ideas is then given a new name: memes. I have found that many people have heard the word “meme” yet almost none of them understand the true definition of this term. The purpose of this presentation was to explain to my sociology class what a meme was and how one can use Memetics to think about sociological concepts. This presentation also suffices as a brief introduction to Memetics and how memes can be used by anyone to think critically about the ideas they come into contact with on a daily basis.
