Abstract

… take a walk to support healthy hearts …

… explore the Burgundy and Beaujolais regions of France …

… and root for our beloved Chaparrals as we preview the fall sports line-up ….

Walking is a healthy activity… not just for yourself, but for others as well when you participate in the annual Heart Walk. Heart Walk is a nationwide fund-raising event for the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease and stroke. College of DuPage is proud host of one of the Chicago area locations. Participants raise money and awareness for saving lives. We’ll hear some inspiring and touching stories from COD employees who walk each year for health, honor and hope.

It’s a new school year, and that means more than just turning leaves and new classes. It’s a new season for fall sports at COD. Football, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, tennis, golf – come out, show your support and cheer your favorite Chaparral teams on to victory. Be a part of COD’s winning tradition.

For the third consecutive year the COD athletic department captured the prestigious Pepsi Cup for the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators Award. Congratulations to all of our athletes and department members for earning this distinction after several top regional and national finishes last year. Show your school spirit and support your teams as we strive for a fourth Pepsi Cup.

For many, traveling to France can be an opportunity to enjoy fine wine, excellent food, see beautiful landscapes or immerse themselves in Parisian sightseeing or night life. Students enrolled in the field studies course, “Adventure in France – Wine and Gastronomy Tour”, get to experience it all… while earning credit. They tour the French countryside, sampling regional delicacies; learn about the major French wine-producing regions through classes and tastings at local vineyards; and spend a day in Paris. The trip is a rich experience in cuisine and culture.

This year the McAninch Art Center at College of DuPage is celebrating its 20th anniversary by providing a fantastic series of programming for the community. Theater, music, dance – the MAC has something for everyone. We’ll check in with new Art Center Director, Steven Cummins, to catch a glimpse of some of the exciting offerings coming up during this season at the MAC. The MAC invites you to experience their quality programming as they enter their third decade of offering the finest in visual and performing arts.

Bringing employers and job seekers together is the basic, yet extremely important goal of the annual DuPage Job Fair. The event is co-sponsored by College of DuPage and State Representative Sandra Pihos and is a community service, providing networking opportunities and free workshops throughout the day. Recently, COD President Dr. Chand spoke with Representative Pihos about this advantageous event for county employers, students and community members alike.
