As part of the Music 2202 Capstone Project, students compose, produce and perform a 4-6 minute, single-movement work for a minimum of 2 players and/or singers. A large part of this project centers on the compositional process. Throughout the semester, students meet with faculty to discuss concept, structure, and execution of their compositions.
The musical style of the piece reflects student understanding of 20th- century music, though for their compositions students are permitted to draw on earlier styles, as well as elements of world music, jazz and other musical styles. Students are required to write out the entire piece in accurate notation. Additionally, any music that draws on improvisational techniques is fully written out.
