Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent rapid transition of educational assessment from in-person to online formats saw a rise in remotely proctored assessments increase. While this modality had grown in years prior to the pandemic, it grew globally in early 2020. Adoption of technology-assisted solutions for remote proctoring was sudden and widespread. Now, as institutions more strategically plan long-term, sustainable solutions, it is important to analyze both the needs of the institution and the technologies available to make the most informed decisions. The technologies available in remotely proctored tests are examined for benefits and potential concerns. In addition, a framework for the ethical implementation of remote proctoring is presented as a guide for institutions that offers the opportunity for input from multiple user groups.
