Description

My research essay / speech was about an independent holocaust museum constructed and located entirely within Fortnite. While I first saw this as a massive joke, or a really bad way for Fortnite to try to beat the allegations that they were anti-semitic, this museum led me down a path where I learned about memes as a form of historical memory - framed through the 2016 Indian demonetization crisis. It opened my eyes to the future of digital memorials as a way to memorialize past events, like the Chicago COVID online memorial wall, and to how these memorials might end up hurting the very causes they try to help.
