Description

For the past several decades, the UN Security Council has been the world’s foremost leader in promoting international peace and security. Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and Israel’s retaliation in Gaza beginning back in October, perpetual gridlock among the council’s five permanent members (P5) has blocked it from taking substantive action. As destruction ensues and death tolls rise, the Security Council’s inefficiency in addressing the wars in Gaza and Ukraine has called into question the credibility and effectiveness of the UN’s most powerful body.
