Description
The Downers Grove Park District has imminent plans to develop the land of Walnut Park into a recreational sports facility called “Gelwicks Park”. The development aims to provide the Downers Grove community with new amenities, but will directly threaten the surrounding wildlife, including Walnut Park itself and the adjacent Belmont Prairie. There are alter natives to the Gelwicks Park plan that could continue to bring exciting updates to Downers Grove while avoiding harm to its natural areas. What should be changed in the Gelwicks Park proposal to ensure that neither the environment nor the community is being sacrificed for the other?
