Description

This presentation examines the social issue for drug law reform. Looking at the history of this issue such as the war on drugs and what other policies have brought us to the present where many demand a change to how drugs are viewed in our nation. Incorporating evidence from incarceration rates as well as deaths from opioids, this presentation will address the racial issues linked to the enforcement of drug laws in this nation and argue for a need to change from punishing drug law offenders to offering treatment and harm reduction.
