Fossil fuels and CO2 emissions cause environmental problems. Countries aim for carbon neutrality by mid-century to combat climate change. Sustainable energy conversion and large-scale storage research is needed. Lithium-ion batteries dominate the market due to high energy density and long cycle life, but their high cost and uneven distribution necessitate alternatives. Sodium-ion batteries are promising due to abundant and low-cost sodium resources, but research is still in early stages, and their cost, energy density, and cycle life need improvement before commercialization. My project is focused on the synthesis of low-cost and high-performance cathodes for sodium-ion batteries.
